Costa Rica: El Arrayan - Cup of Excellence Winner

£14.00

Grown by Johel Monge Naranjo and his family on their farm Hacienda San Isidro Labrador, in the Dota Hills of Costa Rica. We've crafted a roast that brings out all the fruity and sweet characteristics of Johel's award winning coffee.

Johel obtained 1st place for his coffee in the Cup of Excellence Awards of 2017, 2nd place in 2018, and 1st in 2019.

Tasting Notes: Raspberry and pomegranate really stand out, blackcurrant and vanilla tones add a complexity to the final cup

El Arrayan is a natural anaerobic lot made up of a blend of Red and Yellow Catuai. The coffee is grown at 1,850 MASL at the extreme western edge of the Hacienda San Isidro Labrador farm, facing the Dota valley. Shade trees protect the growing coffee from direct sunlight.

The wet milling process conserves the full cherry, which is then sealed into a plastic air-proof container for 120 hours, where the anaerobic fermentation takes place. The processed cherries are then dried on African raised beds, fitted with plastic micro-tunnels to protect the coffee from excessive humidity and sporadic rains.

"We focus on the production of specialty coffee and are pleased to be a part of Cup of Excellence. It has allowed us to showcase and share our coffee with roasters and consumers who value quality, hard work and the traceability of our coffee." - Johel Monge Naranjo.
